Days 23-25: Scripture Study

Confession time. Though I have still studied 30 minutes a day, I haven't done great with keeping study notes for the last few days. That's why I am supposed to set goals with minimal parameters. Whoops. Since I broke that parameter, I'm gonna go ahead and change my definition of perfection for the month. The new definition is studying for 30 minutes every day. There. See how easy it is to have a perfect month?

Having said that, I am still going to make an effort to keep study notes because even in the last couple of days of not keeping notes I have noticed a difference. The spirit speaks to me much more when I am doing what it takes to have a focused mind. (And taking notes is what it takes for me).

I missed a day about a week ago. Does that mean I should redefine perfection this month as "read 30 min every day except for one"? Haha.

Tonight in addition to some reading, I watched several of the Bible videos on lds.org. This one in particular impressed me: http://www.lds.org/bible-videos/videos/the-calling-of-the-original-twelve-apostles?lang=eng

I try to imagine what that calling must have been like to those men. I know how hard a full-time mission was, but at least I knew what to expect. I had structure and leadership and lots of other help. These men were listening to the man they had recently forsaken everything to trust and follow, and willingly going out to towns and cities they didn't know to preach a gospel that was new to them to all kinds of people. What must have gone through their minds as He described their calling?

They're all pretty awesome examples of faith.

My personal study wasn't fantastic tonight...though I did keep working on my Book of Mormon summary, and that's good. I've gone through the chapter headings of almost the whole book now--tomorrow I'll wrap it up with Moroni. I have a list of important events in order but I'm nervous about what comes next, as I don't think I was consistent in including all the comings and going of peoples in my notes.

Family study was great, though. We read D&C 128 together. What a fantastic vision the prophet Joseph F. Smith had! This is a remarkable example of continuing revelation. Dad pointed out that this was added to the D&C after his mission. I love the picture it paints of the Spirit World. Dad, Jeni (she's visiting) and I agreed that it seems like mercy will be big and we will be judged by our desires and the direction we're heading. I think it will be a wonderful time to see God's mercy and see the paths becoming clear to all of the good people we, with our limited understanding, worry about in this life. God's not gonna forget anyone.

It was funny to me to read Tina's most recent comment, because this was a new post to me and I was coming on to post: "Thank you, Cam, for updating this blog. I love reading about your experience and your progress towards your goals"

Haha. :) I guess some of us are more patient and appreciative than others...
